The Mining History Centre is a former colliery that has been transformed into a museum showcasing the history of mining in the region. Visitors can explore the underground tours and view the machinery used during that time. The experience is realistic, transporting visitors back in time. Plan for at least 3 hours to fully appreciate everything on offer and wear comfortable shoes as it involves walking. The museum also offers a small souvenir shop and many activities suitable for all ages throughout the year.
It was brilliant. The guide knew soooo much about the mine. Highly recommend going

Great attraction showing how minig has changed through the ages. Includes information on how the miners worked and lived. Well presented and a great day out.

I never thought that I could enjoy this type of visit that much. The museum is so realistic, you have the feeling of going back to the past.Count minimum 3hours for a full visit and wear comfortable shoes, it's important.🤪There's a small shop for souvenirs, many other activities for almost all ages throughout the year.If you're visiting the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, then you should definitely stop by this museum. It's worth your curiosity especially if you like history though this one isn't a joyful one.To those who have read "Germinal" of Emile Zola, this museum is the best way to feel like you were present in those days, meanwhile many of us weren't even born when it all happened.😊
Nancy M — Google review
Really nice museum, with a very nice collection. There are lots of stuff and info for small and big.The entry to the "mine" is very informative. If you plan to go plan atleast three hours to have time enough to get all the information. We spent nearly three hours with two children and did not manage to see it all.The reason for only 4 stars is the missing information in English in the permanent exhibition.
Eskil N — Google review
It was perfect I come from hengri bergson high school and the guide was very funny and kind I think her name is Axel so I give a 5 starts.

The Louvre-Lens Museum is a contemporary gallery that showcases artworks from the Louvre in Paris, as well as temporary exhibits. The Galerie du Temps offers a unique and minimalistic display of art from Europe, the Near East, Egypt, and India. Unlike traditional museums, the artworks are not hung on perimeter walls but are arranged geographically and chronologically to create a three-dimensional experience for visitors.
Loved this, a capsule collection almost - showcasing world history in an accessible way, with some English interpretation boards. Free entry for all and a lovely little gift shop. Outside there are further boards explaining the history of the site as a coal mine, with a view of the famous pyramids of coal waste. Inside there is also a model of the site as it was as an industrial coal mine.

This is a wonderful place to visit. I loved it! The very open plan design of the museum was so inviting and the special exhibition of Fantastic Animals with the masked attendants in the foyer was spectacular. I would have given the visit 6 stars out of 5 were it not for the dreadful parking facilities. We drove around the nearby residential streets for way too long (the offsite recommended parking lots were small and full). If you build it, they will come. If they come, you need to provide parking.
Elizabeth N — Google review
I had always wanted to visit the Louvre-Lens and I finally went on a Sunday. The bus lines were not running, so I had to walk from the train station. It is a very long walk, longer than what they advertise on the museum's website. The museum is in a beautiful building, and the visit is relatively short. They have relatively few, but very interesting works of art spanning several centuries. The gallery is one large open space, and I noticed kids get less bored with this configuration compared to a regular museum. The indoor picnic area is quite convenient, I strongly recommend bringing your own food. Oh, and it is free. Worth a visit!

A small but very impressive collection from the Louvre located around an hour away from Calais.Impressive building design and architecture and contents spanning human development to the present day.Parking available close to the museum, recommend to allow 1-2 hours for a comprehensive visit.

Very nice and interesting museum. Not too big ,ideally if you have about 2-3 hours time. The permanent collection is free, the special temporary collection is 11 EUR but always worth it! Ability for a drink in the main hall, and a nice museum shop.

Very nice smaller museum. Super interesting building and great exhibition in rather unexpected place. Worth a visit.

Great collection. The grounds are lovely too. I also enjoyed the special eclair in the cafe. It was made to celebrate the mythical beasts exhibition - which annoyingly for me started the day after my visit and would have been exactly what I’m into. Despite my timing a great gallery.

An excellent adventure into the minds and lives of those who fought in and lived through the great war. Also, comparing the recruitment strategies used in their desperation to the American recruitment strategies was very enlightening and a bit funny. The Dix collection is a must-see: it privides a raw, heart-rending venture into the tormented mind of a brave soul who fought both enemies internally and externally. I am truly grateful to have experienced this. (Out of respect, I did not take pictures, plus I may have been a little rattled).

Fantastic museum at Peronne. It's well worth visiting.Really informative exhibits, and a few bits and pieces can be touched and encouraged to try on, like helmets & body armour.I'd recommend buying a joint ticket with the Thiepval Museum as it is a lot cheaper to get them together; they also offer a discount for service personnel or veterans. There is a free car park outside and many restaurants on the main square just in front of the main entrance.

It is a good museum for familys and children. It never gets too bloody (except for the part by the german painter...hush hush kids) and it has a good storyline and explains many things in a way which is easy to understand.WW1 nerds and techfreaks will probably miss some hardware and more tactically orientated storyline. They can take it as a supplement to other places ,and enjoy the exhibitions of uniforms plus gear. The museum-shop has a lot of cartoons (plus books and stuff) about the great war in French.

The tunnels served as a shelter for 24,000 British Empire troops awaiting an unprecedented attack. Recently renovated and reopened in November 2021, the memorial provides an immersive journey back in time.
A fantastic museum with an excellent audio visual experience. Our wonderful guide, Mathias, brought the experience of the soldiers of WW1 vividly to life for us. Château de Pierrefonds is a must-see architectural treasure in Oise, France. Originally built in the 14th century and later left in ruins, it was reconstructed in the 19th century by architect Viollet-le-Duc under Napoleon III. The castle has medieval origins and features a parapet walk, making it an impressive sight for visitors.
Beautiful place to visit. Lovely day out for the family and good value for money with a great gift shop. Some items were expensive. We didn't pre book our tickets, just paid upon arrival.

Such a beautiful place. We came here as big Merlin fans (TV show) as this is where the castle scenes were filmed, we were really sad that there's absolutely no mention of the show anywhere or in the gift shop(would be another great tourist attraction)We love history as well so seeing the history and learning about it was amazing as well! Not much around so we visited twice and saw new things we'd missed the second time.A café right by the gift shop would be absolutely perfect! We want to come back when all the scaffolding and building works have gone, hopefully soon!
Sophie D — Google review
Loved this beautiful castle. I personally know it from the BBC show Merlin so I did not care much for the exhibited pieces but more about the exterior...They are still working on the outside of the castle so part of it is in scaffolding. (Said on a sign that they will be working on it up until dec '23)
Lisa B — Google review
Not sure where you will find another medieval castle that looks just like those in your childhood fairytale books. Built in 12th Century onwards, owned by the Valois, and left in ruins from 17-18 century, it was bought by Napoleon and gradually restored. Some restoration detail might not be as historically accurate, but I am taking it all in. The Leopold I emperor of Belgium was married here it seems. The interior is left empty, but the tour is self guided, well labeled, and many areas are opened to the public. I think a casual day trip here with the family bringing picnic food is the way to go.
Eva C — Google review
Frickin huge from the outside. Interior is also amazing, but you can only view the main Chateau 'House', not the massive turrets or ramparts!
Alex F — Google review
Awesome Castle. If you're a Melin fan you'll love this place. The west wing of the building was being renovated which was a shame but I'm sure it'll be great once it's finished. Pierrefonds is a really nice town to explore too.

One of the most beautiful castles I have seen, just around 1 hour North from Paris, this spot has been presented to us on the highway. Quickly did the detour and was very flabbergastedBeautiful restored castle and a nice tour explaining all in the audio guide on how it came to existence. Tickets were cheap I would say and Audio guide available in multiple languages. We learned a lot and also got the books and postcards in the gift shop. Did not regret the trip at all and are enriched by this experience.

Pleasantly surprised! 🏰😊 My visit to Chateau de Pierrefonds was a delightful experience. The reception was swift and of high quality, setting a positive tone for the visit. 👍The castle has been beautifully renovated, and the history behind it is truly fascinating. Witnessing the evolution of the renovations over the centuries adds an extra layer of interest to the experience. 🕰️🏰With a visit time of 1.5 hours, it's a perfect excursion. Despite ongoing partial renovations, the castle remains a beautiful and worthwhile place to explore. Don't miss out! 🚶♂️📸

The Somme 1916 Museum, located in Albert, offers an immersive underground experience that delves into the life of a soldier during World War I. The museum is housed in tunnels beneath the town, originally dating back to the 13th century and later transformed into air-raid shelters. Visitors can explore recreated trenches and a first aid post while viewing battlefield artifacts and engaging with audiovisual exhibits. The museum provides informative translations in English, French, and German, making it accessible to international visitors.
Must visit for history/WWI lovers!! Great collection and reconstruction of the horrible trench war.Three recommendations:1) remove the 3D, just show normal 2D.2) show movie in french, but add english subtitle, so you don't have to wait for 15 mins everytime.3) sell more souvenirs of tiny action figure soldiers.

Very interesting and unique underground museum. There is a lot of information (most of it available in English and German as well) to accompany artifacts from the war. The tunnels lead to a little gift shop and a very nicely maintained park. I learned a lot and highly recommend visiting if you are in the area.

Gosh where do I start, amazing, shocking, scary, it has it all. So touching to see all the artifacts some with bullet holes. Very well.laid out plenty of English titles as well as french. Those poor men who lived and died during that time is fully explained well worth a visit. If you are interested in world war 1 then it's an absolute must

Brilliant underground displays and life-sized dioramas of WWI situations. A lot of relics. Nice options to purchase memorabilia at the end of the tour.
Shea W — Google review
Excellent museum with audio visual and actual exhibits of the battle of the Somme. The museum is in Albert is close to the front line and is next the Basilica which was raised to the ground before and after the battle. Very informative with English French ab German translations. The museum is built in an underground tunnel which gives an eerie feel but adds to it overall delivery. We’ll worth a visit as a starting point any SOMME tour as it sets the scene well and gives great context
Rich L — Google review
Very nice. If you want to get a feel for what took place around the Great War, this is a good place to visit. It’s built in an old air-raid shelter, a large under ground tunnel. This means that the place where you enter the museum is not the same as where you exit. So take note of where you park!
Anton Z — Google review
Loved it. Great collection of war memorabilia. Location in bomb shelter made it that much cooler. Kids enjoyed it (bring student ID for discount).
AGX A — Google review
It's ok. Easy to browse about at your own speed. Loses a star because a number of the touch screen displays didn't work properly. Also, it was mostly in French with fewer English descriptions. But other than that it's worth visiting if you are in the area.

A MUST SEE if you are in northern France. Located 34km from the location of main frontline it is a giant collection containing a wide variety of aspects including but not limited to:1) Weapons and military equipment both in scrap form as well as restored2) Photos (originals as well as 3D forms making you feel like you are in the middle of action)3) Souvenirs from daily life (toiletries, food cans, booklets, leaflets, postcards etc...)4) Brief but engaging descriptions explaining to you strategies and positions of both sides as well as challenges they had to face at the time5) Comparison of different trech setups (layouts, function rooms, sentry and sniper setups, mortar and machinegun nests)6) Breakdown of causes of death and effectivity of different means of warefare7) Tying the battle with historical figures like the Prussian ACE "Red Barron"8) Soldier passtimes like art and scrafts from scrap available at hand or light reading bookletsAnd much more...I visited because I had time to spare and did not have all that much of an interest in the battle but spent 1.5h in a 350m underground tunnel stopping every 1m to read all there was.One major advice! Before zou enter go to a toilet somewhere near because there is none at the entrance and the only one available is at the very end of the tunnel at ground level and you are not allowed back in once you leave the tunnel.

The Museum was more extensive than expected, very good for us Australians as there was a lot of English explanation which is a rarity for France but seems to be getting better. Good range of artifacts and interesting stories. Presented in an actual bunker 10 meters underground ( bring warm clothes so you can take your time) exits onto a wonderful public garden that is also worth a look

The hortillonnages are small islands in the Somme and Avre rivers, featuring fruit and vegetable plots along with flower beds.
What a beautiful place, probably my favourite thing this holiday. There's a guide sheet you can download in English so you can read about it as the tour was in french, but our very funny guide pointed out wildlife in English and explained things in really clear french so we understood quite a bit of the tour. Super well organised, loved supporting the conservation of this magical place.

Inside, visitors are greeted by a nave twice the size of the Notre-Dame in Paris.
Very nice cathedral. Hidden gem of France as most tourist ignore this city on their way south. I loved all the details of the facade. Inside this cathedral is just as nice. When you are here during summer months make sure to stay for the night! Every night in summer there is a magnificent lighthow projected on the cathedral.

Built in the 13th century, it is still the most interesting basilica of the region of Picardy. Impressive. There are a lot of figures on the western facade, which illustrate the Bible and the history of France

An impressive cathedral. The Tower was worth 7euros and the 400 small steps for the views. The staircase is small though so only for those with mobility. It was great that you could spend as long as you wanted at each point. The cathedrale interior (free to enter) was also impressive, 42m ceiling! Look down too at the floor with the different patterns.

La Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, located 60km north of Paris in Beauvais, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. Construction began in 1225 and the cathedral boasts an intricate facade and medieval stained glass. It holds the record for the highest ceiling in a gothic choir. Despite being unfinished, it remains a breathtaking sight with its ambitious design. The cathedral also features a complex astronomical clock that displays not only time but also planetary movements and starry night skies.
My first visit to see this beautiful 'unfinished' Cathedral. Stained Glass amazing post 1940 replacements very complimentary, highly recommend a visit
Neil S — Google review
Shocked to find out the astronomical clock has been forcibly stopped and is NOT working due to the new priest requesting silence during his mass ! It's a unique mechanical piece of art, 1000 years old that was precise to the second; displaying tides, the night sky and tons of other beautiful things.Egomaniac much ?Absolutely scandalous lack of respect for cultural heritage.

Now this is a cathedral that’s both impressive and quiet within. Worth a visit to wander round and in many ways, much better than those in Paris which are far busier.
Robert S — Google review
Its designers had the ambition to make it the largest gothic cathedral in France - ahead of Amiens' gem.Victim of two collapses, one in the 13th century, the other in the 16th century, it remains unfinished today; only the choir and the transept have been built. The planned nave of the cathedral was never constructed.(As an outstanding example of the Vanitatum Vanitas) today Saint Pierre of Beauvais is the highest cathedral of the 7 Picardy cathedral wonders.note:Although it has no main nave & towers you can visit the famous astronomical clock inside {paid feature}

Beautiful Cathedral which surely worths your time to visit. I think it has a unique "clock" which is grandios and beautifully crafted, which shows not just time, but also planet view to the sun, view of the stars in a night sky (planesphere celeste).

A very beautiful cathedral of the 13th century. Beautiful gothic architecture. It has the highest Gothic choir in the world. At some point in time, in the 16th century the cathedral of Beauvais was, with its tower, the highest human construction in the world. It was designed with the ambition to make it the largest cathedral in France and you get the feeling when entering the Cathedral.
Demetra P — Google review
I was really surprised how damaged and of weak structure this building is. It may have the highest ceiling but architectural it's a mess. Metal to support the weak structure everywhere on the outside. Massive wooden support constructions in the inside. The entire building describes the weird wish to have the biggest cathedral without considering aestetical aspects. If you wish to see a perfect cathedral, I would suggest visiting Amiens.

Wow what a magnificent cathedral. Awesome to visit and marvel at the construction which has stood for centuries. I have to say this that one need’s to behave and dress in a respectful manner as in any place of worship. There is a souvenir shop here and it’s wheelchair 🦽 accessible there are no toilets here. Well worth a visit when your journey takes you to or through Beauvais.

Schöne geruhsame Fahrt durch das Natur- und Vogelschutzgebiet der Somme Mündung nach St.Valery sur Somme. Sowohl die Fahrt als auch den Besuch des Örtchens haben wir sehr genossen. Fantastic trip, such a joy rumbling through the beautiful countryside on a steam train. Great price 4 of us for about 60 euro return. If you have children, grab the first or last carriage (they swap engines around half way) you can stand right beside the train drivers.

(Translated by Google) Good nothing more. It's already not easy to understand anything: the line goes from Cayeux to Crotoy but after 08/26 only from St Valery to Crotoy. For the same price, 15€ per person return. You then have to choose whether you take a round trip or a round trip without necessarily knowing the options other than the train (crossing the bay on foot for example and returning by train). Choosing steam or diesel but without really having a choice because it depends on the schedule. In short, at reception they don't explain anything to us other than insisting on having our time of return because we have to choose in advance. We were lucky the train was not full but clearly with a crowded train in times of covid and given that everyone is screaming, wandering and taking off their masks despite the drivers' reminders, I do not recommend. Especially since 1 out of 2 carriages remains closed because they are the "1st class carriages" (no idea how we reserve them) and if they open them the carriages are damaged by the passengers...The landscapes are nothing extraordinary, you don't see the bay but some beautiful lights all the same. On the other hand, you drive about 25 to 30 minutes over a 1 hour journey because the train stops at Noyelles station then the locomotive detaches and re-connects at the other end of the train to leave on another track and that takes time. We made Saint Valery towards Crotoy at 2:30 p.m. arriving around 1:30 p.m. time to park and use the toilets. Arrival at Crotoy at 3:30 p.m. Return to the station around 5 p.m. for a departure at 5:30 p.m.

Park was alright. We were thirsty as hell on our way back, but the bartender was too busy cleaning up to offer us a drink or a sandwich. We waited a good 10mn in front of the bar before we decided to leave as the lady there was rude and unwilling to serve us some refreshments! We ll bring our own refreshments if we ever go back.

Yes, it is a beautiful place and you can watch birds BUT unfortunately on that day it was not that good. There were some swans, ducks and the usual animals. I really expected more and after spending two hours (and 450 photos) we decided to go. Beautiful place and maybe it was just bad luck, but I really expected more 😕

The Funicular Tréport (Top) is a must-visit attraction in Treport, offering a convenient and impressive way to access the upper town from the beach. It provides breathtaking views of the Bay of Somme and the town below. The funicular, which dates back to 1908, was initially built for residents to reach the city center. Visitors can also climb approximately 380 steps or drive to the top of the cliff where they'll find a stunning panorama and a cross.
Nice place and free cable car ride means the kids loved it to.

For me, Treport's funicular is a way of transport that you must to test at less one time in your life. Day and night funicular give you an incredible panorama of Treport's beach and town. You can take funicular for free and cross cliff easily. It’s good way to avoid the big hill to join cliff’s high if you want walk on the cliff. If you come in car, it’s preferable to park you in high of cliff and after go down. If you have time go behind high funicular because you have sort of point of view with binoculars.

The use of the Funicular is free. Parking on top and bottom payable during 2 seasons. Check the notice. There is a city train that goes round the city at the city level of the Funicular. It starts as 11.30

The museum features fine paintings, artworks, ivory carvings from the impressionist era and folding lace fans. The Chateau is a lovely place, it’s very old & historic. The view from there is fantastic! The tickets are around 5 euros small children don’t pay. There’s the bottom part of the castle available, you cannot access towers. It’s like a museum & gallery in one. There’s an Ivory museum too. But gutted as there wasn’t an English guide to read so didn’t actually learn anything about the history of this place. It’s open currently 10-12 & 2-5 and shut otherwise. There’s free toilets on the premises, it has entrances from the bottom & top of the castle. I wish the people working there were a bit more pleasant but as a sightseeing & historical place it’s lovely. Family friendly. Recommended to visit if in Dieppe.

The Cathedral Notre-Dame de Rouen is a beautiful gothic style structure rich with history. The cathedral spire is currently being repaired. It is the tallest cathedral in France. The entry is free, but there should be a fee in my opinion. There are areas that require restoration so a small fee would help. This cathedral was painted by Claude Monet so you may have seen this is you visited a museum.

One of the great cathedrals of France. Somewhat astonishing when you first see it due to its size and architectural detail. There are many things to admire from the statues, carvings, small grotesque creatures and the interior space. The inside is awesome with an immense amount of space conveying the grandeur of heaven and earth by the medieval architects and builders. It is worth spending some time examining the exterior all the way around and the interior. A magnificent structure.

I visited this palace together with someone who doesn’t speak neither understand french, and we were the only 2 people who said to the guide, Samantha, that we don’t speak French. I can understand french (as I speak a bit and my mother tongue is Spanish), I noticed that Samantha was giving quite more information in French than in English, what I consider as not professional guide in a touristic attraction like this. I asked her about an explanation that she made in French about where the spices come from and she said to me that I could read that information in the description of every spice. Well I was wondering why she is a guide, if I can read any information. I thought that a guide is there to explain more than what is written and to answer questions from visitors. Samantha made us feel really uncomfortable treating us like this and taking us beside the rest of visitors. I have been many times in France and I have felt myself like at home, when people speak to me about the stereotype that French people are arrogant, I was always denying such stereotype, but I guess people mean the attitude that Samantha showed me there. It is a pity.Beside that, the castle is a beautiful place and has an interesting history. As for the liquor, I guess it is a personal taste, for me it was too sweet.

Interesting place to visit. Only organized groups tour are allowed. We didn't have English speaking group, so joined a French language group and received a brochure to follow up. A couple of rooms were closed, so the tickets' price reflected that - it was correct. The guides were pleasant and answered our questions in English, when was possible. The video went into loop, so the group was seating and watching it second time - probably scared from exam at the end of a tour:)The tasting was well organized with 3 out of 4 type of spirit presented.Overall - a pure touristic spot. We left with a feeling that it was questionable to drive 45 minutes for it.Average value for your money.

This is a fascinating distillery with a fascinating history.Benedictine is a recipe from Venice that contains 27 herbs and is used as a medical tincture. During the French Revolution, the monks were expelled from the monastery, and a family connected with the monks' financing discovered the recipe in a book and began producing it again.Akexandre Le Grand was a wine merchant and a brilliant marketer, and his sales skyrocketed. The distillery, which is now owned by Bacardi, continues to produce the liqueur. The alcohol is sucked into large tankers and transported to a bottling plant.

This cliff is impossible to overlook, as the pebble beach curves toward the southwest, showcasing its natural arch and solitary rock formation. You’ll notice tiny figures ascending the steep steps and grassy slopes to reach a viewpoint overlooking the needle, or Aiguille, a towering 70-meter-high spire of chalk-white rock emerging from the sea. You can either follow their path or walk out to the arch during low tide—just be cautious not to get trapped by the rising water.

The Pont de Normandie, also known as the Normandy Bridge, is a remarkable cable-stayed toll bridge that was constructed in 1995. It spans the estuary of the River Seine, connecting the cities of Le Havre and Honfleur. The bridge features pedestrian, bike, and motor lanes, making it accessible to various modes of transportation.
Works fine by bike. Just DO NOT USE the bike lane. Use the side walk. If you’re scared by heights, push your bike and don’t look down. But fine to walk, even in strong wind. The cars’ noises are scary and the wind is, but one gets used to it.

Pont de Normandie connects Le Havre on the north with Honfleur at the south. It spans the Seine estuary with the English channel. The bridge is pretty long, in fact there two parts - one over a smaller Seine canal and then over the Seine. As you might expect there's a higher toll (some 5, 6 Euros) to cross, but worth it for the views and saving your time.

Connecting the cities of Honfleur in Calvados and Le Havre in Seine-Maritime, the Normandy Bridge (Pont de Normandie) is a perfect reflection of French civil engineering expertise. With a length of 2,141 metres, it spans the Seine estuary and is one of the largest cable-stayed bridges in the world! Equipped with 184 cables, it consists of access viaducts, two 214-metre-high pylons and an 856-metre-long central span. From the road bridge, which is also accessible to pedestrians and cyclists, there are numerous viewpoints over the estuary, offering a whole range of landscapes and colours depending on the time of day.

Sights & Landmarks
Located in Honfleur, France, Église Sainte Catherine is a remarkable wooden church dating back to the 15th century. It stands as the oldest wooden church in France and is also the largest with a separate bell tower. The church's unique construction gives it the appearance of an upside-down ship's hull, with massive original wooden pillars and grand arcades.
Quite an amazing place to visit. Best to walk in from lower streets as traffic and parking can be a problem. Surrounded by quaint little shops. Also one of the few public toilets in the area is right outside.

On a recent trip to the picturesque town of Honfleur, I had the privilege of visiting Église Sainte-Catherine, an architectural marvel that proudly holds the title of being the largest wooden church in France. I was immediately captivated by the church's unique charm and historical significance. At Église Sainte-Catherine, one cannot help but appreciate the dedication and preservation efforts that have gone into maintaining this remarkable structure. The atmosphere here is serene and contemplative, providing a sanctuary for quiet reflection and spiritual connection.

Bref, un must !(Translated by Google)Be careful, a must-do visit! A jewel of the heritage of Honfleur and France. Wooden church dating from the 15th century and restored in the 19th and dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria. The exterior is covered in chestnut wood. The interior is simply superb with its two naves. The bell tower was separated from the church in order to avoid possible fire because the latter was occasionally struck by lightning. Apparently, the craftsmen who built this beautiful set do not seem to have used a saw. In short, a must!

Vieux Bassin is a charming old harbor in Honfleur, lined with 16th–18th century houses and a carousel. The port was created in 1681 by demolishing existing coastal fortifications and expanding the existing port. It's a popular spot for tourists and amateur photographers due to the beautifully preserved historic homes reflecting in the calm waters, especially at night when lights and lanterns are lit.

This is a city from Sec XI which remains in the 11th century in terms of acessibility. It was really good if the responsible for the town mantenaince/repair to think about the people with reduced mobility because they can't visit or even get close to the city streets, so difficult, even hard it is even with all the help of my friends. The park has well-maintained walkways and new features that enhance the overall experience.
Lots of animals to see.The whole place is laid out quite well for a long day out and gets you really close to the animals. The buffet restaurant was no good for me but that's more my issue (fussy eater). My wife loved all the food though so was good value to her but if your fussy go for a different restaurant as its a waste of money.Ironicly out of all the exotic/african animals to see my kids fell in love with the GOAT petting area and didn't want to leave.

Zoo magnifique. Les enclos sont spacieux, ce qui laissent aux animaux la possibilité de se mettre en tranquillité ou à l'abri. Néanmoins, les animaux sont très visibles. Les nourrissages sont interactifs et gratuits (payants dans certains zoos...). Fantastic Zoo. Penalty to see and do. It is great how close you can get to the animal. Would definitely recommend a visit

Absolutely fantastic place. We spent all day here with 2 young kids. Under 3's are free and adults are only 23 euros each. There's 2 different routes with lots to see on each and you get much closer to the animals than any other zoo I've been to. The red route is definitely easier to navigate than the yellow one. There's also a train which takes you round different parts of the park you don't see while walking which is included in the price . If you're in the area then definitely make the trip you won't be disappointed.
Mark F — Google review
If you are in the area or even passing by, this zoo is well worth the visit. The price of the ticket is relatively cheap for all the extras on offer - train rides, feeding animals and a petting area for the kids. We were lucky enough to have had the chance to hand feed the giraffes which in some zoo’s can cost hundreds. An amazing place and look forward to visiting again next year.
R&V — Google review
A nice open zoo with large area’s for the animals. The red path is a bit more difficult and steep to walk with a stroller but certainly doable. The safari train is loud and only shows a few animals there not visible from the path. The burgers with fries I wouldn’t recommend, the fries were flat and the bun a bit soggy.
Joris S — Google review
The best zoo I have been so far. It is huge, you can spend an entire day here without getting bored. It’s also surrounded by the nature, not like those in the city, so it brings more atmosphere to the zoo. You can find any animal here and get close contact with them. The entry price is worth it, for all of the fun it can give you here!

Dennoch 5 Sterne, da der Rest fantastisch war.(Translated by Google)A very nice zoo. The enclosures in particular are large and varied. There is a safari train that partially travels through the enclosures. We were very enthusiastic and enjoyed the tour of the zoo and the landscape. The entry price is very high, but you get something in return and therefore justified in my opinion. Only the food wasn't that good. We got cold fries. Still 5 stars because the rest was fantastic.
Markus F — Google review
Incredible safari park! It's beautiful to see how well the animals are doing. No apathetic behaviour, just animals living in semi freedom. All other zoo's should look at this one to see how they should build their park and care for the animals. There was one big irritation factor, wasps everywhere. Really annoying. But that is not something you can control in summer in France.

Overall great hotel. Very nice place to stay. Many amenities. Very helpful staff and friendly. It helped that they spoke enough English to make the stay smooth. The only complaint would be the small rooms. They are smaller than we are used to here in the United States but very manageable. Most of the time was spent outside of the room. Indoor & outdoor pools along with other spa amenities. Located on the beach. Within walking distance of many places to eat & shop & sight see. Offer bicycle rentals for further excursions.

A wonderful museum like experience in this historically significant castle. It is very well preserved and it has been turned into an interactive walkthrough with the use of projections and tablets. However, the only thing that takes me out of it is the furniture they have placed in it looks like it belongs in a kids play about royalty. It would be better without the furniture in my opinion. The castle is stunning on its own.

Birthplace of William the Conquerer, the castle offers commanding views of the surrounding area (unsurprisingly). After major refurbishment, the museum housed in the keeps offers much to see. You can use the digital pad to view how it looked, which would be ideal to keep young ones engaged. Plenty of steps in the keep mind you, as one would expect. You can visit the courtyard (inner walls) without a ticket.

Good for a quick visit. Large free car park and free entry to the castle grounds. Visitor centre has a charge but you get a real feeling of how life was when the castle was occupied. Short video presentation at entrance to castle showing how it developed over time. The town of Falaise is worth a stroll around.

This is an experience unlike in almost any other castle, and I've visited many. You get a tablet which, after scanning markers around the place, uses extended reality to show you how the surroundings looked like almost a thousand years ago. You can turn and move around with it, and it tracks your movements like in a VR computer game. The app is very well done with a lot of extra content, hidden things to find, and easter eggs. With this and all the displays, movies, and information tYou get a good feeling of how the place changed over the centuries. Of course, you get the history of William the Conquerer, who was born and raised there, and a lot more. Available at least in French and English. It's definitely worth a visit. Kids really enjoy the multimedia content as well. Helpful staff, plenty of free parking outside of the castle (also for campervans). Recommended.

Mémorial de Caen is a renowned center for history and peace in Caen, offering an in-depth exploration of World War II, the Normandy landings, and the Cold War. The museum provides a comprehensive overview of the battle of Normandy and delves into the personal experiences of individuals involved in or impacted by the war. Starting from the 1920s and extending through the Cold War era, it places World War II within its historical context.
Wow - what a glorious museum and memorial complex. A dramatic building and an impressive lobby area. The exhibition had a really good logical flow and some tremendous detail and artifacts. It was very moving. I traveled with the Viking Explorers. I am really happy that we traveled all the way from Florida to see this museum. I truly believe everyone needs to come and visit and learn about the greatest generation that ever lived.

Prepare yourself for this museum- maybe take a few deep breaths when you arrive in the parking lot. While the building is very plain & basic, the emotions elicited by this museum are anything but... In the span of 4 hours, which was hardly enough time, I went from confusion to disappointment, horror to despair, and finally relief to hope. In this building the lessons of WW2 never end and this should impact us all. While leaving, I walked behind a hobbling 90 year old man when a teenage boy skipped by him with such a light heart. Who learned what lesson? For me, my heart was picked clean until all that was left was bone. I was lucky to stand in the sun with a breeze on my face.

This was a fantastic experience and a very well-done museum. They have at least four different areas of the museum. The first was World War II, the second was outside where there is a German bunker under the museum, the third is a movie theater with a good film, and the fourth was the American life of soldiers in the 1930s, it was all very moving and educational and I’m glad I visited.

Great museum with a couple of different aspects. WW2 museum with a German bunker complex and various commemorative gardens to the alliesOnly criticism is I thought it was expensive for what it was. Would have preferred more access to the bunker but that's a minor criticism.Something for everyone and lots to absorb.A small part in my 9 day DDay 80th anniversary visit

I liked this museum for it’s explanation about the whole D-day operation and some in depth stories about the way of living in France during the war. But, I missed a lot of props and machinery. The museum is very big but only one tank, one airplaine and one jeep are shown. I would have expected lots more equipment like the WWII museum in Limburg, The Netherlands which is filled with gigantic machinery. A bit disappointing though.Must do: buy tickets in advance, we were there in August, very crowded. You get time frames to enter.Buy tickets at the original website, other ones are more expensive.

It’s a great castle to visit and learn lots from. The entrance fees are attached to my review, check it out (up to April 2024). There was a bit of a queue during the afternoon shift. Consider going earlier or get the tickets in advance. They have brochures in different languages so don’t be afraid to request one. The audio guides are available in different languages too. There was a tour included (in French only). You can take up to 2 hours going around the castle and the towers. I highly recommend visiting if you’re close by. Small, inhabited island with 11th-century, Romanesque abbey & the highest tides in Europe.
Our journey to Mont Saint Michel was made even more magical by spending the night at one of the cozy inns nestled within the island's walls. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the abbey and surrounding buildings were bathed in a golden glow, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.Exploring the island at night was an experience like no other. The narrow cobblestone streets were illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns, casting enchanting shadows on the ancient stone walls. With fewer tourists around, we felt like we had the island all to ourselves, free to wander and soak in the quiet beauty of the night. The abbey itself took on an ethereal quality under the moonlight, its towering spires reaching up to the sky as if reaching for the stars. Inside, the hushed whispers of history seemed to echo through the halls, adding to the sense of mystery and wonder. And then there was the tide. Watching the sea creep closer under the cover of darkness, only to recede again with the rhythm of the moon, was a sight that filled us with awe and wonder.Spending the night at Mont Saint Michel was an experience we'll never forget. It's a place where the magic of the past meets the beauty of the present, and where every moment feels like a dream come true.

This is a must see! Tickets should be bought in advance to enter into the Abbey part of the fortress.Even if you didn’t get tickets to go inside the Abbey, you can walk the entire perimeter of the wall and around the grounds. There are lots of shops and restaurants on the grounds as well. Crepes, coffee, and lots of souvenirs. This is well worth the trek out to see it!

Stairs. Steps. Stunning Beauty. This is one of those locations that’s a must see, bucket, list item. We had the fortune of being able to stay on the island overnight, which is recommended if you can make it. So much to see and say about the area. Yes, the main drag is a gauntlet of various shop, selling candies and toys and knickknacks. No, the restaurants are not the greatest of cuisine, but the food is passable. The star, however, is the Abbey and surrounding buildings.Hard to put towards how beautiful this is. The architecture and the various rooms you see tour or each unique and are breathtaking. By my account it took 650 steps from the bottom of the town to get to the very highest point of the Abbey. There are a couple of roots depending on whether you like stairs or rather take slanted ramps. Either way find your way up there. If you can buy tickets in advance, I would recommend it. Would also recommend being there first thing in the morning nine 930, or later in the evening, to avoid the true crush of crowds, this site not to be missed and something unique on the entire planet

Awesome experience! Took a tour here and it was worth the time. Guide took us up a side entrance of stairs so we avoided the crowd. Still had lots of steps. I appreciated the visit more having a guide to explain everything I was seeing. On the way down, we went the main way to shop and eat as desired. Spent over 4 hours here. Use of shuttle instead of walking it was nice. Less crowded earlier in the day.

This place is magical. No words can describe its beauty. It's definitely worth staying overnight at the hotel to experience the street without anyone on the street. I understand now why it was so hard for the soldiers to attack this fortress. The mud are slippery and sink you in when walking. It's definitely fun to waddle through it but be careful not to get stuck in too deep.

The abbey was lovely and spacious, I went with a group in April, I loved the abbey but the town in itself was busy, packed and very touristy, our guide said it's worse in summer, it's a nice place, beautiful architecture but the town isn't my cup of tea, though it is expected as it's a tourist attraction. Be prepared for a long day of walking up and down stairs 😂, it's views are very rewarding though.

Mont Saint-Michel is absolutely breathtaking and a must-see destination. The walk to the cathedral is worth every step, offering stunning views and a sense of awe as you approach this historic marvel. However, I would recommend skipping the prisons as they weren't worth the time or the extra cost. The transport to and from Mont Saint-Michel is very well-organised, making the journey smooth and stress-free. If you can, I highly suggest walking down to fully absorb the beauty and then taking the bus back for a convenient return.

It is a lovely and magical place as from fairytale. Especially if you love medieval period! It is for all ages. We walked around and booked the guided tour and enjoyed. I would recommend coming during the working daysThere are restaurants inside the monastery but they are pricy and full so it is good to bring your own food and make a piknik on a grass with a great view to the castle.

It was really a beautiful experience. One of, if not the, most unique place in the world! I recommend it deeply to anyone to visit. The nice medieval town is well taken care of and is magnificent to visit.

Visited June 2024A stunning island off of the north Normandy coastline. An historic city that creates the perfect backdrop to any picture. There are shuttle buses from the public parking areas to the city - the buses are free but the parking is charged incrementally. Inside the city the Abbey (The only thing visible when viewing the island from a distance) sits majestically above everything else. I definitely saw where Hogwarts took its inspiration from - possibly. There are plenty of gift shops and restaurants accompanied by great views across the bay.A superb day or just a morning out.

Points of Interest & Landmarks
Porte de l'Avancée is one of the three grand doors marking the main street at Mont Saint Michel. The castle doesn't require tickets for entry, but you'll need them to access the top for a breathtaking view and to visit the current exhibition celebrating its 1000-year anniversary. While there are plenty of steps, free toilets are available inside the exhibition area, or you can use paid facilities at the entrance.
Mont Saint Michel is an amazing place. You don't need tickets to enter the castle, but you will need to tickets to get to the top - the view is amazing and well worth it. There's also a current exhibition for the 1000 year anniversary. Plenty of steps, free toilets inside the exhibition area or you will have to pay 1 Euro at the front. There's a free bus shuttle to take you from the visitors centre or you can walk, which takes about 30-35mins.

Mont Saint Michel Amazing place. Like magical 😇 but it's not suitable for handicap 🧑🦽 because there is no access to get to the top hill side without lift service. It's really difficult.

I have to say my experience at these Toilets was very appalling. My reason being that the Lady running it charged 2 Euros for me to excrete my bodily fluids. Anyways there was another Woman working there who looked like she was at the lowest point in her life even lower than the Mariana Trench (for those who have been living under a rock the Mariana Trench is the deepest underwater trench in the world). Anyways, back to the story, as I entered the sanctuary of the Mont Saint Michael bathrooms a very pungent smell came about my nostrils. To my disgust I found large splats of diarrhoea smelted across the walls (my best assumption was the Charging lady from the start as her face looked as red as my little boys cherries). Anyways, my experience at the Toilets was not only pungent and disgusting it was filling me with gratitude to the fact that back in the Brexit geezer land of the UK we have access to free toilets. - infinity/10. NO BOSH

The Musée Christian Dior is located in the charming seaside childhood home of the renowned fashion designer. The villa, known as "The Rhumbs," boasts a stunning cliff garden created by Dior's mother. The museum not only pays homage to Dior but also hosts captivating fashion exhibitions. Visitors can explore the beautiful surrounding gardens with breathtaking views and enjoy a delightful tearoom on-site. Additionally, there is a museum store offering unique gifts.
We didn't go in the house as there was an exhibition of hats, but had there been Christian Dior clothes would have definitely visited. Loved the gardens and Salon de Thè

Brilliant place to visit, very interesting to see his home and some of his work exhibited and the story behind the Dior name. Another added bonus are the beautiful gardens which you can visit without having to pay or without having to enter the house.

Beautiful gardens and the museum is interesting. In addition to the artifacts about Christian Dior and his designs, you get a sense of what the house was like to live in.

We enjoyed our walk around the gardens and especially the walk down to the beach (many stairs!) These things are free. The museum (which costs 10 euros at the time of this review) is well done and you can spend as little as 30 minutes and see most everything. If you enjoy fashion and haute couture it's worth a visit. We were able to park on the street (free) very close to the museum at 10am on a weekday.

"Les Rhumbs"Christian Dior's childhood home stands on the cliff facing the Channel Islands in Granville, Normandy, not far from Mont St Michel.Villa Les Rhumbs was built by the shipowner Beust in the late nineteenth century and was named after the old marine term "Rhumb", designating a wind rose divided into 32 rhumbs, a symbol which appears as a mosaic floor ornament in one of the house's entrances.Christian Dior's parents bought this grand house with its winter garden located in a park in 1905.Christian Dior was particularly fond of this place. He wrote in his autobiography "Christian Dior et moi": "I have most tender and amazed memories... of my childhood home. I would even say that my life and my style owe almost everything to its site and architecture."In 1932, shortly after Christian Dior's mother Madeleine had died, the father, who was an industrial, got ruined by the crisis and the property had to be sold. The villa was purchased by the town of Granville and the garden was open to the public from 1938.In 1997, the villa became the "Christian Dior Museum," unique "Musée de France" labeled museum dedicated to a couturier

Very beautiful museum. Nice to see a lot of vintage designs by Dior. Good atmosphere and surroundings. Take the walking path from the centre of Granville to the beach and climb the stairs at the end near the house of Christian Dior for the best experience.

À absolute favorite destination to take our over seas guests. The stunning 1909s English style garden ate free to visit. A new exhibition each year curated by the The Dior Foundation. Book ticket to annual exhibition online and book the rose garden Salon de Thé for lunch or afternoon tea.

Nice place to visit if you are in Granville. I have no interest in the subject matter at all, however the gardens were a pleasant place to stroll around. Was nice to learn about the inspirations for Diors work, even if I can't tell a Dior dress from a pink Adidas shell suit 😜

Beautiful gardens with spectacular views surround this 19th century home, where Christian Dior spent the first 6 years of his life. The gardens are freely accessible, and the museum is free for kids under 12. It’s a lovely place for the whole family. Make sure to take the stairs to the beach, for a peaceful and relaxing moment that is priceless. The museum store is a must for those looking for unique gifts.

A complete gem of a museum, petite Dior shop, new exhibition annually, sublime gardens, a lovey outdoor Salon de Thé, we recommend you make reservations for both online prior to arrival. Tucked out if the way and a destination that drive only. Entry to wander the gardens is free. Not to be missed for lovers of French Fashion and exquisite gardens.

We were in a rush and could not wait at the queue so we just walked around the gardens. It is a great place to visit and maybe next time we'll get in the museum itself.

If you admire Dior and the House of Dior Haute Couture (primarily in the '40s to '60s golden period, then you can't but love this homage to the great man...lovely venue and gardens with delightful Al fresco dining. (My little watercolour of the Granville Coast from Dior's Rose Garden...)

Mont Orgueil Castle, an 800-year-old medieval fortress, stands tall above a charming fishing village in Jersey. This historic stronghold was the island's main defense for centuries and offers sweeping coastal views. Visitors can explore secret rooms, discover a witchcraft exhibit, and uncover intriguing artifacts like the medieval Wheel of Urine and Prayer Nuts hidden within its walls. The castle provides an entertaining journey through history with its impressive architecture and captivating exhibits.
I visited it in the late afternoon and with the 4 per 3 ticket and it's a good value. The views from the castle are amazing. The visit of the castle itself is pretty nice. The route is pretty understandable. Takes a couple of hours to visit it. The climb of some points is a bit demanding but very short anyway (10/15 steps and you are at the point)

Really loved coming here. Nice little harbour with some restaurants and shops etc. You could walk up to the castle with stunning views along the way and even spotted little lizards in the wall in the sun.Everything was great until we got in to the castle and are required to pay £18.95 each to go any further of which we thought was a bit steep which would have been the best part of £40 for the 2 of us. So we continued around the grounds and back down to the harbour which we didn't mind but would have been great to go through the castle.

Be careful to have a good amount of time and agility. This castle is excellent but can be difficult to cover. Steep stairs and battlements. Winding corridor. Little seems to be on the same level . Fascinating history and views over the bay. Guided tours and birds of prey. Reasonable prices in the cafe too. Brilliant. Recommended.

Such a fascinating place! Great spot to visit, although only for the able bodied tourists. After Lots of steps and stairs to climb you are rewarded with incredible views and rich history of the place, told via informational boards. On top of that, you will find some artwork throughout the castle, inspired by the classic medieval pieces and real history as well.

Unfortunately, we showed up just as they were closing the castle at 1610. We misread the hours online.Hours: 10-1600 (open till 1730 Fridays only)It was still a nice walk up and view of the beach from outside the castle.

Enjoyed a great few hours here. Recommend the tour to get a good overview, but there are signs everywhere explaining as well. A lot of history jam packed into one place. Nice Cafe as well for your sweet or savoury needs.

Lovely old castle in great original condition with lots of things to see. If possible check when the tours are before visiting because they are very good and worth catching. The tours with characters like Sir Walter Raleigh are very good too who appears on certain days.

Very impressive castle with a labyrinth of rooms and passages. It's quite a climb up to the very top - you need to be reasonably fit. Toilets and cafe are available.
